About Us
We at Goshen Greens are working to develop a viable small scale production model for growing a key ingredient for parts of many meals - lettuce - under lights in the fall and winter months. To reduce our collective carbon footprint, kicking the California produce habit can play a role. The electricity powering our lights and heaters in a well insulated space is from renewable sources. We are flanked on two sides by four nearby hydro dams on the Ottawa and Madawaska Rivers and we have over 2 Mw of solar production on our road alone. As climate change wreaks havoc throughout the U.S. and presents an uncertain future, food self sufficiency for Canada becomes more urgent and we are taking one small step in that direction.
Practices
Our lettuce is sustainably produced. Untreated seeds are planted in OMRI Listed Approved organic soil and watered with water pumped from our well 250 feet down in the Canadian Shield. Integrated Pest Management techniques are implemented as necessary.
The horticulture side is managed by Dan who draws upon his studies and work experience in horticulture and year round indoor under lights crop production.
